Sturminster Newton High Street.

Sturminster Newton High Street.
Although I have shown pictures of the cottages and well know, Mill on the River Stour, I don't think I have ever shown Sturminster Newton's High Street, so here it is. The PiP is of a very good cafe/restaurant that I have often used, but it seems they close on Mondays. Thankfully there are several more to choose from.

I love the perspective, Rosa. You have taken the photograph from a very effective angle. The variety of styles of the buildings is quite amazing. Cheers, Joe

Thank you very much Joe. I would think each building is from a different century! The old Lloyd's Bank building is now a very interesting Emporium. I wish I had more time to look around it...but I will be back! Cheers, Rosa.

Buen jueves, Rosa.

Thank you very much Jose Manuel. As I mentioned to Joe, I think each building is from a different century! As you walk further down the street the buildings become very much older with thatched roofs and there is remains of a very early market cross.
Happy Thursday.

Nice view of the main street of this charming town! (It's still so very different from France).
(I really like the portrait of the Queen covering a window of the white building!!!)
Good afternoon*****

"Vive la différence" Nouchet! As you know, I love your old towns and châteaux. Ipernity is a great way to see them. The cafe did well with their decorations (the white building) A shame it wasn't open on Monday. I thank you always for your lovely comments.

Good afternoon and happy Thursday.

This is a quintessentially English country village scene Rosa.............a lovely mix of architectural styles (which most commenters have noticed), with quite a few independent traders and no huge shopping malls. I can't see a pub, but I bet there's one nearby. I like the flags and bunting too. Beautifully composed and taken.

The café/restaurant looks very attractive in the sunshine..........again I like the flags and bunting and the patriotic image of the Queen placed front and centre. Such a shame it was closed, but I see you managed to get your coffee and cake fix elsewhere :-))

Rosalyn Hilborne club has replied to Keith Burton club
Thank you Keith. Yes the styles are very different but do seem to fit together well. Many of the independent traders have been there for years but I am pleased to say they have a couple of new ones, and a well established camera shop.

The coffee in the bakery/cafe we chose was very good and the lemon drizzle cake went down a treat ;-))

PS. I forgot to say that there are two pubs, but in the 1960's there were at least two more. One was The Railway Inn, which has now been demolished.

A lovely traditional 'High Street' hopefully the lack of people was your choice the shops all appear to be trading. The forecast thunder storms didn't arrive just a few spots of rain, at least with the cloud cover it didn't feel as hot, have a pleasant Friday Rosalyn Good night

Sounds like Spain! Many shops, cafés and restaurants, as well as museums, close on Mondays. I rememebr this was the case in France years ago too! Sometimes very frustrating!
An attractive place and all the better for not being TOO chocolate-boxy!

I can be really annoying Andy. I would never go to Frome on a Monday again.
Sturminster is a real working town that apart from the mill, which is within walking distance of the town, it doesn't get too many tourists.
Have a nice weekend.
