Along the Bridleway.

Along the Bridleway.
Researching the family history in Downton took us to this farmhouse. The farm had been in the family for many generations but we couldn't find a road leading to it. Luckily there was a bridleway, so off we went and a mile along the track we were so delighted to see this beautiful old house! We did think about claiming it but on second thoughts just took the pictures ;-) My four times great grandfather was born here and because of their Wills we were able to gather a lot of information. They were Yeoman Farmers.

We think it might have been thatched at some point Gudrun. It is very secluded with just a bridleway to reach it and there was a hidden cottage in the garden that I loved just as much. I will upload soon. It has been a very interesting story. We have found out so much, especially about the very strong minded women...so that's where my daughter gets it from ;-))
Thank you for your very kind comments.

Make a claim Rosalyn !!!!!!! a lovely looking property it's not unusual to see farms with out a proper road I suppose they just built them where was convenient no planning applications and to a large extent they would have been self sufficient

If only I could Peter !!! I have lived on a few farms but none quite like this one. It felt like we were in an earlier century.

What a nice house Rosa. I understand that your family was living there in earlier time....
That's to be happy for a long time, I think!

Last week I was for four days in England, in the surroundings of Basingstoke and half a day in old Winchester. We had wonderful days and weather and saw again very old houses with beautiful gardens....
Downs Court (On our way to Hamshire) , West Silchester Hall, The Manor House, Bramdean House and gardens, Spring Pond, Heale House gardens and Great Comp on our way back to the train under the Canal....

Yes for many generations Christien, but sadly no more.

Oh I am pleased you had good weather. I went to Winchester last year for the first time and really enjoyed looking around. I have not been to any of the other places you mention but I will look them up and could be a few new places for me to go :-)) Isn't the Channel Tunnel marvellous...so quick!! Thank you for all your kind comments. I look forward to your photos!!

Yes indeed Rosa. The Channel Tunnel is very quick! We went with whole the bus in the train ;)
But at first we had to come from the Netherlands, which was about 5 hours to go... And by train 35 minutes...

That is the only trouble Christien. It takes us over 3 hours to get to Folkestone. Can't believe how quick it is once we reach there though!! I still remember how nice your area is and would love to visit again one day.
