Empty shop! Wincanton

Sad to see all those empty shops.
Anyway nicely captured.

It will not be empty for long Jaap. I just wish someone had taken it over as it was :-(

Yes Google does give some curious translations Frans...sometimes I don't understand them at all, so I just say 'thank you' LOL! I will post a picture when it is occupied again. It will never be the same again though :-(

I think I know what it might be Gudrun but I will wait and see! Definitely not a phone shop, thank goodness! I wish we had a good shoe shop, but it's not that either ;-)

A lovely record of Wincanton history Rosa, hardware shops have sadly disappeared almost everywhere, So instead of one small item you now have to buy a pack,

You're right Roger, unfortunately. There is still a very good independent one in Gillingham, Dorset. I will have to go there now! Many thanks for your kind comments.

It's a sad fact, Rosa, a small business is up against the big boy's ... but is there room for another tea room??....

I am hoping it won't be a tea room John, but will have to wait and see. A local person has bought it so I have a little clue but it could go one of two ways....when it's occupied I will post another picture ;-))
PS. We do have 2 cafes within bakeries, 1 in the wine shop and 3 more independent ones...that's enough even for me ;o)

Yet another locally owned establishment closes, nearly always a retrograde step. Hopefully it will soon be reopened as a useful asset for the community and owned by a local person.

I think the whole town was sad to see it close Doug. Whatever it becomes it will not be as useful as it was and I shall miss all the goods they used to line up outside the shop.

It's the same in France: the traditional little shops are disappearing one after the other and the city centers are dying or becoming impoverished..............................

Sadly this is true Nouchet. Our town is quite small and has less empty shops than a few years ago. I hope that is a good sign. Everyone seems to shop on the internet these days! I like to do it properly ;-)

There are lots of empty shops in Chard !!!!

I noticed when we passed through Chard recently Jeff. I saw that Poundstretcher had a sale on though, so not all bad ;o)

I recently played the Two Ronnies Four Candles sketch to some students. (We were looking at homonyms and related things). It took quite a bit of pausing the YouTube clip for explanations but they did laugh when they understood!
Shame about DIY shops and the like but people don't make or repair things any more. Often cheaper to buy a Chinese made replacement or go to IKEA!

The classic and very funny sketch Andy! I could watch it over and over. You are right and I will miss the hardware store. I just hope the Wincanton Cobbler keeps going. He's really good and so much cheaper than Timpson's!! I hate Ikea!!!
