William & Fanny Sutters home in Eardisland until 1938 - circa 1930 & 8 1991 HJS
There is some confusion over the name of this house. There is a Historic England listed building called Riverside Cottage just across the river. The name Riverside Cottage has been used by my father for the house shown here. He visited the village in 1991 and took the photo on the right and captioned it Riverside Cottage then. Although the appearance has changed over 60 years, the very substantial chimney stack towards the back of the cottage still remains, although the smaller one has gone.
This house is currently (July 2020) on the market under the curious name of 'Bridle Goose'.The name seems to be connected to a notorious judge.
There is further confusion caused by another house, a few yards along the road, in Eardisland called just 'Riverside' which was occupied by William & Fanny's daughter Edith and her husband Edgar Griffiths. Some of the confusion may have come about as Williams death certificate states that he died at Riverside. He may well have been cared for by his daughter Edith in his last days.
