Crossing keeper's cottage - Rye - 27.7.2005

On the East Sussex Section of British Listed Buildings website, this is listed as The Gatehouse, but as it is beside a level-crossing, to the east of Rye Railway Station, It would seem likely that this means the cottage of the crossing keeper. He or she would operate the level crossing gates, under instructions from the local signal box. In fact if one blows up the image, the sign above the door says 'GATEKEEPERS COTTAGE'
This has been contributed to the Railroad Crossings of the World Group, although it doesn't show the crossing itself, as an illustration of this provision for crossing keepers in days gone by.
