Dome

Dome
This picture and the two previous photographs are of the same place (the "Light Event" installation by Rebecca Baumann in the abandoned Carillon City mall in Perth). You will notice, however, that the colour cast is slightly different in each photo. This is because of the changes in the light coming through the dome as the sun moves or hides behind clouds. Interestingly, when one is physically in the space the colour cast is far less apparent.

Ulrich John, Fred Fouarge, Xata, Don Sutherland and 8 other people have particularly liked this photo

Great images, John. Re the difference in recorded and perceived colour, I suspect our eyes attempt to compensate for colour casts.

You're probably right about the compensation made by our eyes, George. I particularly noted the difference because when I came home and downloaded the photos I was taken aback at how pink/purple they were and at first thought my camera was faulty or that I'd inadvertently messed with the controls! It was only when I saw my wife's photos and the ones on my phone that I began to figure it out. (I'm not the sharpest tool in the box.)

Yes, it's something I noticed with auroras. The green always comes out much more vividly than it appears to the eye. My late wife couldn't even see the green in auroras, seeing them more like lit clouds.
