Totally understandable sentiments, Marta.
I knew a few Ukranian students, together with some Russian ones, at university (I went to SSEES - The School of Slavonic and Eastern European Studies, now part of University College, London), in the late 70s and they were very much all friends together and all were (unofficially of course) anti the then Soviet regime. I often wonder what became of them all!

I know lots of Ukrainians and few Russians. I don't think that I ever saw any unofficial interactions among them.
The School of Slavonic and Eastern European Studies was certainly a platform where students could mingle.
In late 70s?
Their children and (maybe) grandchildren are either scattered around the world or trying to survive or fighting... How sad :(

Thank you, Marta, for posting these photos, which help prevent our Ipernity community from becoming desensitized with the passing of time. I disagree with the suggestion that we can’t do more. I don’t know what motivates Putin, but he invaded Ukraine because he is stronger and could. In our own local communities, many of us know people who abuse others because they are stronger and can. We can make a difference there by not acquiescing, by saying something, and bearing the social and financial consequences that follow. If more of us refuse to tolerate local abuses, maybe—eventually—the broader community sense of what is acceptable will change, and there will be fewer larger abuses, like those by Putin. And if that is too much to hope for, nevertheless our local communities will be better because of what we have said and done.

Now, I hope I am not punishing your visitors.

i do appreciate your statement. It's a hard job and someone has to do it. But that's no option for me. I do some work where sadness ain't appropriate. When i go to help children for their school, i need to be uplifted. These kids need some possibilities to laugh and enjoy themselves. Or when helping some Ukrainians, i shouldn't bring sadness, they've got enough of it. There i need a bright mind to see what's necessary to do. And they aren't sad all the time, and sometimes there is loud laughter (especially when someone tells a joke about puuu.thing ...)

Well... my statement is not addressed to Ukrainians. Those that I know (and there's lots of them in my tiny town since 2014) I greet with a genuine smile reciprocated by big smiles from them.
Perhaps my statement here is addressed to happy-go-lucky patrons of HFF, HBM and HWW groups. Perhaps I am venting here... Let me vent!

So many people are aware of the Ukrainians, but yet nobody speaks about the Uyghur people in China who are being put in concentration camps and being killed. We pray for them at our church. Remember them as well.
