Milton Common, Portsmouth (+PiP)

Milton Common, Portsmouth (+PiP)
Another couple of images from my walk on Milton Common last Tuesday. The other image is in the PiP.

Believe It or not this beautiful place used to be mudflats. The land was reclaimed and used as a landfill site between 1962-1970. Around 1974 it was capped, grassed over and nature was allowed to take over.

Best viewed large if you have time. Thanks for looking.

A fine pair of shots. I do prefer the PiP view of the two. Always good to walk such paths.

Cheers. Herb

Quite a transformation from mudflat to landfill to a completely natural looking place. Two lovely shots with classic late summer vegetation.

It really is...........I remember the landfill area from when I was young and it was a horrible mess. I'd never have guessed it would turn out like this.

Thanks for your thoughtful comments Gudrun.

The blue flowers in the PiP are Common Chicory (Cichorium intybus)........a fairly common wildflower in this region.
