Sea Kale on the beach at Hayling Island

Sea Kale on the beach at Hayling Island
This Sea Kale can be found all along the pebble beaches here. I believe the grasses are Marram Grass which also likes pebbles (and sand dunes).

There are a couple more views in the two PiPs. In the first PiP I've held a leaf up to the light and as you can see, it's quite beautiful.

Thanks for looking and enjoy the rest of your weekend.

Very nicely composed Keith. I like the way the grass reaches up into the sky and forms a great backdrop against the horizon.

An interesting plant. Is it edible?
Keith Burton club has replied to Eunice Perkins club
Apparently so Eunice. I just pulled this from the web:

"Sea kale shoots grow from the roots, much like asparagus. In fact, the tender shoots are eaten much like asparagus, and they can also be eaten raw. The large leaves are prepared and used like spinach or regular garden kale, although older leaves are often bitter and tough"

I wouldn't eat it though as it's also what most of the dogs go for a pee on.!!

I love the grey green of the sea kale, it's a quite sculptural looking plant and along with the grasses and reddish pebbles it makes for an excellent photo. The two PiPs are also great!

In Germany (and other countries) sea kale is a protected species and very rare.

I'm pleased you like this little collection Gudrun...........pebbled beaches are not everyone's cup of tea, but they're far more interesting than just bare sand.

These plants are very common in England and I don't think they're a protected species here!

The grass behind the Sea Kale is Marram grass. A typical photo of plants on a shingle beach.

Yes, I mentioned that in my description Amelia. There is a lot of both of this particular beach!
