Uppark House
Uppark House was built in 1690 iin South Harting, West Sussex, England. It is a Grade I listed building and a National Trust property. As the sky was grey and featureless I decided that black and white was the way to go with this one.
This is the nearest Trust property to where I live. Unfortunately I've never been able to visit the interior of the house, apart from a couple of ground floor rooms, mainly due to covid-19 restrictions, but the gardens are lovely and they do a pricey but very nice bit of coffee and cake in their café.
In 1989 as work on restoring the roof was near completion a huge fire broke out on the top floors. The Fire Service worked to contain the fire while staff, volunteers and members of the public started removing the contents of the house to safety. Nevertheless, can imagine the damage done, not just directly by the fire, but also by the water used to contain it.
You can read the amazing story of the fire and the subsequent restoration of the house using this link: www.nationaltrust.org.uk/uppark-house-and-garden/features/the-fire-at-uppark
It's well worth a read if you have time.

Keith Burton club has replied to trester88 clubSteve and I stayed at this incredible place called Cape Blanco and there was a historic house to visit there that is very popular. We also didn't get to view the inside but here is what it looks like: Hughes House There is also quite the story to this one as well. I enjoy learning about the history of area attractions too. :)
(How nice that I can show you pictures from our trip which aren't on ipernity! :)
Keith Burton club has replied to Janet Brien clubWünsche noch einen schönen Abend, liebe Grüße Güni :))
I've not been able to visit it this year as it's been closed for renovations. I hope to be able to visit again next year when the renovations are completed.
Enjoy the rest of the day..........and have a nice Wednesday :-))
