"Celebration" – The Food Court, Sinclair Centre, West Hastings Street, Vancouver, British Columbia

This painted wood sculpture, in the atrium of the redeveloped Sinclair Centre, shows a man high-stepping, waving his briefcase and holding what looks like a glass of draft beer. A woman is holding a bouquet of flowers and a glass of wine. John Hooper created it during the centennial sculpture symposium. He was born in England, raised in China, served in the British Army in India and settled in New Brunswick, finally dedicating himself to art and earning an Order of Canada.
The statue faces the entrance to the Canada Passport office. Usually live people waiting for a Canadian passport don’t look quite this happy. Not after three months of waiting, at any rate!
