Pseudorchis straminea (Newfoundland orchid or Vanilla-scented Bog orchid)

Pseudorchis straminea (Newfoundland orchid or Vanilla-scented Bog orchid)
Philips Garden Trail, also known as the Dorset Trail is part of the Port au Choix National Historic Site. The trail leads to Philips Garden, which is a site where the Palaeoeskimo people once lived. We just stayed on the trail loop and did not make it all the way to the home sites.

Along the way, we saw a number of Yellow Lady's-slipper orchids, but they were well past peak bloom except for a couple of them. The big attraction, though, was another new species for me -- Pseudorchis straminea also known as Newfoundland orchid or Vanilla-scented Bog orchid.

Also along the trail, we spotted large colonies of the very delicate Mitela nuda" or Naked Miterwort.
