I hear a symphony 2

I hear a symphony 2
Since moving from urbia to suburbia, I've started taking New Topographics-style photos -- in long views, too. Since this is a long view I think it looks better big, but you be the judge (type Z or click the pic).

For Sight and Sound I am providing a link to the Supremes performing an arrangement of this photo's title song, "I Hear a Symphony", featuring a symphony orchestra, an echo chamber, and an introduction by Paul Anka.

This is a footnote to Jean's comment above, but yes, this is almost frontier town suburbia - wide, empty streets, large front lawns, and virtually nobody to be seen.

The touches of orange are not accidental - something drew you to taking this picture, after all. And the traffic cones may be sunbathing, but to me, they have simply given up, feeling unneeded and unwanted.

The shopping cart disappoints me, though, It looks like it wandered in from another picture - though on closer look, these may be multi-family dwellings, and that would explain it, no?

phantastische Interpretation!! :-)

I thought of the red mailbox as the opening allegro, Bob, then the cone as the slow movement, the cart as the scherzo, and the sign as the finish.

Both the cone and the cart I took as abandoned items. They are stranded, awaiting a return to productive use.

This city sprawls so much, Xata, that everybody drives everywhere. You can go out for a walk and not meet anyone on the sidewalk. I suppose with modern technology weèll probably end up never going outside, anyway.

This place looks as if it's suddenly been abandoned..............and people have just dropped what they were doing, got in their cars and left. Very mysterious..!!

Very nicely composed John............and full of detail. like the splashes of orange colour, they draw the eye nicely and the trees are really lovely.

Well worth viewing large..!!

Thanks, Keith. As I mentioned to Xata, this city sprawls so much that everybody drives everywhere. London opted for sprawl back when gas was cheap, but doesn't seem to have noticed that gas isn't 30 cents a gallon any more.

Thanks, Ernst. That's one of the characteristics of photo-sharing sites that appeals to me. I have often learned from comments things that I didn't quite ubderstand when I took a photo.

Nice slice-o-suburbia, even complete with obligatory abandoned shopping trolley and traffic cone

Thanks, Stoker. This is quite a change from midtown Toronto. There are more stores within two blocks of my old place in Toronto than there are within a mile of where I am now.

There are certainly enough empty carts lying around in this neighbourhood, Léo, to equip a battalion of homeless people.
