Balchladich Bay, Stoer peninsula, Sutherland
Balchladich Bay is a quiet, peaceful spot on the south-west coast of the Stoer peninsula in Sutherland. In this southerly view, the Coigach peninsula is visible on the far skyline.
The rocks here are reddish sandstones with subordinate mudstone and conglomerate beds of the Stoer Group. They are similar to the unconformably overlying Torridonian sandstones but predate them by around 200 million years.
