Battle at Horse Landing (Civil War)
This appears to be depicting part of the following part of the description: “One landsman [race unstated] on the Columbine and three Negro seamen jumped off the boat, swam ashore, and marched some five days finally arriving at St. Augustine, Florida.”
If you look closely at the portrayal of the Columbine, it appears that all of the troops except one are depicted as Black. It would be interesting to know if that’s an accurate representation of the makeup of the ship’s crew.
