Green Cove Springs Shands bridge (#0330)

Green Cove Springs Shands bridge (#0330)
What remains of the old Shands bridge across the St. Johns at Green Cove Springs. Driving down to cross this bridge was a wonderful adventure for us kids, but probably frightening for father. It was a narrow wooden bridge, 2.2 miles long, that was always in such rough shape that you drove across at about 20 mph – the bridge was replaced with a concrete span in 1963. If the link below works, it’s a photo of the original bridge taken in 1950 (the hand numbering looks familiar, maybe my father took the old picture on one of our trips).
