That was an interesting set of links! It seems his later reputation as a pedophile is something of a canard. I gather Dodgson's family tried to "protect" his reputation by suppressing information on his affairs, especially those with married women; but children were "innocent." So of course, the Freud-drenched 20th and 21st centuries then get exactly the wrong idea...

Thanks for that comment, and the opportunity for me to get on my soapbox :)

Continuing with your thoughts -- there's a long history in European (continental) thought that highlights that our cultural perceptions of 'childhood' (and related age groupings) are social constructions that developed over time to fit with various political and economic agendas. It seems that English language cultures are much more uncomfortable with thinking that suggests that humans are agentic (have power) at much earlier ages than we give them credit.
