NYC Central Park 3682a
The first time I visited Central Park was in about 1972 when I took my mother on a long trip from Jacksonville to Quebec City, in the winter. We wandered around Central Park, eating lunch from a hot-dog vendor while watching ice skaters on a holiday-decorated rink. As a born-and-raised Southerner, my mother had many negative stereotypes about New York City as brutal and emotionally cold, but I think that day led at least to a little bit of her rethinking her assumptions about the world. Visiting the park is still a reminder that it is very easy to get away from 'hustle and bustle' assumptions about the city.
