Traffic chaos in Mildenhall : 3 of 6 - 18 Jul 2024 (P1180676)
Thursday 18 July 2024 (1006) – Traffic chaos in Mildenhall : 3 of 6

Re-surfacing in a side road (Shrublands) off King Street in Mildenhall caused quite a bit of traffic chaos as the vehicles of the contractor moved in and out. ‘Stop/Go’ boards controlled the traffic with queues of traffic running back from the War Memorial junction to Kingsway, North Terrace, Queensway and High Street as well as blocking King Street itself.

At this moment the traffic was stopped both ways as the large road surface stripping machine turned round (behind the camera). The low loader that had brought it was parked alongside Heron Foods and when traffic was able to move it was the inward traffic that had a clear advantage.

Outward bound traffic wasn’t getting much of a look in. The inward lull gave the driver of Stephensons 608 (EU64 CVR) a chance to get out of the bus station although having done so had for a few moments to then queue. It seemed like every man for himself!

The bus, an Alexander Dennis Enviro400 bodied Scania N230UD new in September 2014, was working the 0910 service 16 from Newmarket to Bury St. Edmunds. Considering the surrounding mayhem the driver was doing alright for time. The scheduled departure time from the bus station was 1002 but it would be 1012 before the bus got to Croft Place on Kingsway (via the Hub at 1008).
