Austurleið-SBS 509 (VP 305), a Jonckheere bodied Mercedes-Benz, arriving at Nydidalur in the remote area of central Iceland – 24 July 2002 (492-21) (Photo 2 in a set of 4)
Wednesday 24 July 2002 - Second in a set of four photos which show Austurleið-SBS 509 (VP 305) on the F26 road approaching Nýidalur in the central highlands of Iceland.
The coaches need to be rugged as they travel over rough terrain and fording numerous rivers. The coach is seen splashing through a river in this photograph. It was working the southbound Mývatn- Landmannalaugar service operated three days a week between 15 July and 20 August in 2002. Nýidalur is approximately mid-way between available fuel stations, 110km going south or 133km going north, and comprises two accommodation cabins and one toilet/shower cabin.
