L'édifice fut construit de 1660 à 1668 sous le cardinal Mazarin qui avait acheté le duché de Mayenne en 1654. C'était l'hôtel de ville et le palais de justice. Il est orné de deux cadrans solaires (1785) avec les citations "Unam time" (Craigniez une seule heure) et "Qua hora non putatis veniet" (Elle viendra au moment où vous ne l’attendez pas). La fontaine date de 1683.

SPLENDOR OF THE FORMER TOWN HALL. The building was constructed from 1660 to 1668 under Cardinal Mazarin, who had bought the Duchy of Mayenne in 1654.
