Einer der ersten Frühlingsboten - One of the first spring heralds - PiP


In einem Naturschutzgebiet hoch über dem Maintal fand ich diesen wunderschönen Falter. Es ist das Männchen des Aurorafalters (Anthocharis cardamines), das im Bild an einem Veilchen Nektar saugt.. Die Unterseite des Falters ist unscheinbar marmoriert (Tarnfarbe), während die Oberseite strahlend weiß ist, mit leuchtend orange gefärbten Flügelecken. Die Oberseite der Weibchen ist weiß mit schwarzen Flügelecken (siehe PiP), weshalb die Weibchen leicht mit anderen Weißlingen verwechselt werden können. Die Eier werden gerne auf der Knoblauchsrauke (Alliaria petiolata) abgelegt, die bevorzugt als Futterpflanze für die Raupe dient.

I found this beautiful butterfly in a nature reserve high above the Main valley. It is the male of the orange tip (Anthocharis cardamines), which in the picture is sucking nectar on a violet.... The underside of the butterfly is inconspicuously marbled (camouflage colour), while the upper side is brilliant white, with bright orange wing spots. The upper side of the females is white with black wing corners (see PiP), which is why the females can easily be confused with other white butterflies. The eggs are readily laid on the garlic mustard (Alliaria petiolata), which is the preferred food plant for the caterpillar.
