Dewsbury Moor House, Dewsbury, West Yorkshire (now a ruin)

Dewsbury Moor House, Dewsbury, West Yorkshire (now a ruin)
The present house was probably built c1825 for the Greenwood family who held the estate for much of the nineteenth century (an 1846 deed apparently states that they also owned a mill adjoining this estate; this mill was later sold and became a tannery but has now been demolished. A cluster of workers’ cottages which stood on the hill behind the mansion have also been demolished). Map evidence suggests that a small extension was added to its north-west c1900, around the time the Greenwoods appear to have sold the house. It was badly damaged by fire about ten years ago

It doesn't look as if anyone wants to restore it. :-(

From what I can gather the owners don't want to sell. I think someone's planning a little development of executive homes for this site ...........................

Thanks for the link Ray, I was very annoyed that Historic England removed this house from the statutory list as I thought this would happen. Historic England appear basically to have rewarded the owners for neglecting the house . Best Wishes James
