Ja, das ist Kunststofffolie, die fest um die gepressten Heuballen gewickelt wird. Das Heu ist dabei nicht ganz trocken, sondern nur angewelkt. Unter Luftabschluss setzt nach kurzer Zeit eine Art Gärung ein. Das Ergebnis ist Silage.

Was die Rinder davon halten, kann Biobauer wohl besser erklären, als ich.

Hier ein Bild, in dem beide Arbeitsschritte zu sehen sind: rechts das Aufnehmen und Pressen des Heus, links das Einwickeln der Ballen.
