Parts of Arizona, and California are extremely hot and The climate of California varies widely from desert to alpine depending on latitude, elevation and how close the area is to the coast. ... Parts of the south have a semi-arid/steppe climate, for example San Diego.

Well, but I haven't suffered the heat there. Dry and windy.
It dried out your skin, but you drank water and didn't sweat. Exactly, like in the desert that I love.

So far I've experienced the Sahara.

It's much worse where I live in the humid continental climate of north-eastern Italy, in Veneto, especially in summer.
In the U.S.A., unfortunately I have never been to San Diego, but I must say that I have experienced different climatic variations in the past years.

One of the examples I can give you now: from Lansing (midsummer) to Chicago, about 4 hours by train, I had to open my suitcase and cover my summer clothes with a jumper and other warm clothes to face a kind of storm of rain and snow in the C ity of the Wind !
I really thought it was very American and a wonderful adventure, of course:-)

I've never been to Las Vegas. Prefer to be out in the mountains hiking or sightseeing as you were when you went to the Colorado River. Hot? We had temps of 44 this past summer here in eastern Washington!

Las Vegas was on the way to the Grand Canyon and, although certainly NOT the only city to visit in the USA, I was nevertheless intrigued by its artificiality and strangeness, although I obviously knew its history, and also in the various American movies, more or less its aspects.
I have to say that, at various stages in previous years, I had visited other American cities, including the magnificent Washington.
It was there that I experienced the 40 plus degrees, and it was 2004!

Un intenso souvenir di un viaggio che immagino sia stato bellissimo...per fortuna che l'hai tirato fuori dai tuoi magici archivi, mia cara Bea!!
Gli ombrelloni sembrano foglie autunnali sulle sedie e tavoli che si intersecano perfettamente con questo super fence, verde e oro...questa bella prospettiva dai colori accesi ma pur sempre marsiani ha davvero la potenza di rendere la temperatura molto più che estiva di quel giorno e anche di farci ricordare...di evocare ricordi di viaggio, fugaci ma così preziosi!Flash di atmosfere , di odori, di luce...che fanno parte di noi e che emergono quando meno te lo aspetti.

La lunga e robusta balaustra in diagonale sembra dividere nettamente la strada, preda del forte calore, con la zona dei tavolini in cui gli ombrelloni sembrano garantire un pò di ombra e sollievo.
Nonostante l'imponenza della balaustra, preziosi dettagli di sedie e tavolini emergono in maniera nitida ma, sopra ogni altra cosa, troneggiano quegli ombrelloni che, come ha giustamente notato Adele, hanno la tonalità delle foglie d'autunno.
Chissà cosa ricordi di quel giorno .... forse il gran calore o, meglio ancora, la sosta gradita prima di altre e interessanti escursioni.
Una foto rimasta ingiustamente per troppi anni nel cassetto, hai fatto bene a mostrarcela, finalmente !

Come annoti tu, sempre così acutamente ed empaticamente, un rinnovarsi di sensazioni nel ritrovare questa foto: il calore, certo, bruciante ma secco dell'aria del deserto, la curiosità gioiosa di vivere una specie di avventura quasi da road movie in questa città, creata dal nulla proprio da uno spietato gangster, il noto Bugsy Siegel, per i suoi criminosi interessi, negli anni 40 , mi sembra, del Novecento.
Città alienante quanto si vuole, ma 'grandiosa' nelle sue architetture originali o imitazioni , involontariamente un po' caricaturali,di Venezia o Parigi , e, comunque, con una suo intrigante fascino.

L'ho girata divertita , incuriosita, con uno sguardo ironico ma , ammetto, immagata.
Non ricordo, invece il nome di questo Café.

J'aime beaucoup le commentaire de Fabio et souhaite avec lui que du fond de ton tiroir tu extirpes et partages d'autres souvenirs, toujours personnels, toujours salutaires, Bea. Tels sont l'extraction et la résurgence de ce maudit passé que l'on a pourtant tellement souhaité mettre sous le tapis.
Mais je parle sans doute ainsi trop de moi...... ;-)

Il existe une expression italienne : "balayer la poussière sous le tapis", qui est bien sûr utilisée pour cacher les problèmes et les difficultés que l'on ne veut pas affronter parce qu'ils sont difficiles à affronter, même si, même à distance, ils surgissent toujours !

Mais dans ce cas, heureusement ! :-)comme Fabio et toi l'avez souligné, ce sont des souvenirs de moments de bonheur et de joie qui ont soudainement réapparu, remuant dans mes tiroirs !
