Negativer Raum im Bild
Viele Motive benötigen einen bestimmten Leerraum im Bild, damit ein Gleichgewicht zum Hauptmotiv entsteht. Manche Bildmotive kommen mit sehr wenig oder gar keinem negativen Raum aus, andere „schreien“ geradezu nach mehr. In der Fotografie ist der negative Raum ein Gestaltungsmittel, um nicht das ganze Bild mit ablenkenden Informationen zu füllen.

Maria Nordman und Nan Hoover: Wahrnehmung Raum Kunst Architektur. Als negativer Raum wird in der Malerei und in der Fotografie jener Bereich bezeichnet, der nicht das Zentrum der Aufmerksamkeit darstellt und somit den Hintergrund oder auch die Grundfläche in der Figur-Grund-Beziehung beschreibt.
