Honey
For The Sunday Challenge - Seven Deadly Sins.
Honey is an image for at least three of the Deadly Sins. From the Bible in the Book of Proverbs:
Lust: Proverbs 5: 3-4
For the lips of an adulteress drip honey, and her speech is smoother than oil; but in the end she is bitter as gall, sharp as a double-edged sword.
Gluttony: Proverbs 25:16
If you find honey, eat just enough— too much of it, and you will vomit.
Proverbs 27:7
He who is full loathes honey, but to the hungry even what is bitter tastes sweet.
Pride: Proverbs 25:27
It is not good to eat too much honey, nor is it honorable to seek one’s own honor.
Sloth: Because I could not be bothered to create a more interesting photograph. My wife tells me that it is the worst one I have taken in a long time. ;-)
It is of greater interest that honey is mostly a symbol of blessing and prosperity but like most blessings there is a razor edge between what is good and how it can be defiled.
