WP1878 WPG - VIEW OF NORTH WINNIPEG

WP1878 WPG - VIEW OF NORTH WINNIPEG
Unposted, the stamp box on the reverse of this card indicates that it is from the 1904 - 1918 period. Entitled "View of North Winnipeg", it is likely being taken from a spot near the corner of Kennedy and Broadway - with a view to the north east.

The building on the right would be Alexandra School, located at the S.E. corner of Edmonton Street & St. Mary Avenue. Behind it and towards the left would be Eatons.

No photographer or publisher is identified.

OK ... I see now. That is one hard to understand angle. The taller buildings across the rear of the shot are:
Boyd Building (rear)
Free Press Building
Steele Block
Time Building (with the water tower)
Eaton's

So the apartment building in the foreground is probably the Conway Court, which is one of the few that is still standing in the downtown core.

I'm guessing it was taken from the old Law Courts building. It's hard to believe that Kennedy Street was ever that heavily forested, but you can see that that was the case on that De Nobele card of Kennedy Street as well, although that was probably 7-8 years earlier when the trees hadn't got quite so big.

I think you are right about the Law Courts Building.
