Everyday Life
a tilted dock
An inlet of Waskesiu Lake, with a tilted dock in the foreground. The dock would have been installed after the ice left the lake, but it appears the footings on one side had subsided into the sandy lake bottom.
number 10 - ready for fishing
A Parks Canada boat ready for some fishing or exploring time. Considering how much rain had fallen in the preceding hours, I was surprised the boat was not filled with water.

Waskesiu River riffles 3
A closer look at the riffles created in the water flowing over rocks in the Waskesiu River. I chose a longer shutter speed to create a softer look to the water as it flowed over the rocks.
Waskesiu River riffles 2
The Waskesiu River flowing over shallows on its way to the lake with the same name.
Mercury 53
In the 1950s car makers used lots of chrome in their designs, and bullet shapes were often part of the grille, such as with this 1953 Mercury. There is also a lively trade among car restorers in vintage licence plates. Many of them used to adorn the walls of barns around Saskatchewan.
Chevrolet grille
A portion of the grille of a 1952 or 53 Chevrolet four-door sedan. I had a lovely conversation with the owners of this car at a show n shine event near my home. They were happy to have me photograph their pride and joy from various angles.
'40 Ford Grille
A portion of the grille of a 1940 Ford. I took this image at a show n shine, where several car restorers had their cars on display. You can selections of the cars on either side in the reflections on the hood.
teardrop headlight
The headlight of a restored 1940 Ford, set against a look-t-me-yellow paint job. I should have hatted with the owner about the Model 85 badge mounted on the grille. A bit of research on the internet revealed that Ford built a few different models in that era, and there is a lively online trade in original and replica badges.
Albert Memorial balusters
The Albert Memorial Bridge is a municipal heritage property, built in the 1930s. The Art Deco balusters that line each side of the bridge were refurbished in 2012, but the seasons take their toll. The balusters on the east side are easily accessible, which makes them a worthy subject for taking images in early morning light.
ducks and jogger 2
joggers under the sun
I am often in Wascana Park for a half-hour or so before the joggers and dog walkers start to appear. On this morning the three joggers gave me wave as they made their way around the lake.
joggers at Wascana Park
Joggers on a path that circles Wascana Lake, with a high rise condo building in the background.
friday fence
After taking photos of a photogenic old dairy barn I walked over to what I think is a shelter belt surrounded in part by a wood pole fence. Happy fence Friday!
pathway into the light
Strong side light coming through trees and falling on a path in Wascana Park. This image was recorded on slide film, which has a distinctive look. I lightly edited the jpeg file, and wasn't able to entirely remove the vignetting in the upper left.
a red paddle
An image of a kayaker out for a morning paddle on Wascana Lake. I took this with my film camera, and the results have a different look than with digital. The concrete structure in the background was originally a bridge abutment that has been re-purposed as a waterfall.
garden shovels at the ready
Shovels and a few other implements stored on the wall of a shed at a common city garden. I assume the owners of each shovel know how to find their own. I took this image with my film camera, with min imal post-processing.
a rake's progress
A view of rakes stacked against a storage shed at a community garden near my home. This image was taken on film, with minimal post-processing.
