Borgarfjörður eystri

Borgarfjörður eystri is a fjord and village in the East of Iceland. Until WWII it was a very isolated fishing community, a road to connect the fjord with the rest of the country was only built by the late 1940s. Before that people had to walk over the mountains or go by sea. Borgarfjörður eystri is the second largest area of rhyolite in the country (extinct tertiary volanoes) and is of great natural beauty.

Borgarfjörður eystri liegt in den Ostflorden Islands. Bis zum 2. Weltkrieg war es eine sehr abgeschiedene Fischersiedlung. Eine Straßenverbindung wurde erst in den späten 40er-Jahren gebaut, zuvor kam man nur zu Fuß (über die Berge) oder mit dem Boot aus dem Fjord. Borgarfjörður eystri ist das zweitgrößte Rhyolitgebiet Islands (erloschene Vulkane aus dem Tertiär) und von großer landschaftlicher Schönheit mit den bunten Bergen.
