Kúðafljót bridge

Kúðafljót bridge
Kúðafljót is one of the largest glacial rivers in Iceland. It originates in Mýrdalsjökull and is monitored closely because changes in conductivity can be warning signs of an impending jökulhlaup from Katla volcano.

Kúðafljót ist einer der größten Gletscherflüsse Islands. Er entspringt unter dem Mýrdalsjökull und wird genau überwacht, weil Änderungen in der elektrischen Leitfähigkeit auf erhöhte Aktivität des Vulkans Katla und drohende Gletscherläufe hinweisen können.

Schönen Dank, Udo! Island hatte den mildesten Oktober seit Beginn der Wetteraufzeichnungen! Leider teilweise sehr nass- einmal sind wir deswegen sogar ins Museum;-) War aber trotzdem klasse dort!

Thank you for that wonderful description, Gudrun. Not only have you told us about how useful the bridge is, but also the photo has a beautiful perspective and a hint of reflection too. I want to go there!

Many thanks, Amelia! All glaciers in Iceland are retreating and most of them will be gone completely by the end of the century (and Greenland might be green again...). I can only recommend a visit to Iceland, but must warn you that you will want to visit again and again;-)

Vielen Dank, Lutz! Man hofft, dass die Brücke im Ernstfall stehenbleibt...Notfalls werden Breschen in die Strassendämme gerissen, damit das Wasser dort ablaufen kann.
Hier war Traumwetter, da habe ich viele Fotos- an den Regentagen eher weniger;-)

Schönen Dank, Iris! Das Foto täuscht, wir hatten extrem viel Regen- aber dennoch eine tolle Woche auf Island! In Norwegen war anschließend überwiegend schönes Wetter und viel Nordlicht, aber das dauert noch mit den Fotos...

Da bricht man sich auch die Zunge ab.... Wenn's nach faulen Eiern stinkt, ist die Leitfähigkeit hoch. Hat's zum Glück nicht getan, wir haben 2 Nächte direkt unterhalb Katla verbracht und da wollte ich im Ernstfall nicht sein;-)

Schönen Dank, Heidi! Der blöde Justin Bieber hat einiges zu verantworten, der (und noch ein paar Hupfdohlen dazu) hat auf empfindlichem Moos getanzt- jetzt wollen alle Chinesen das nachmachen...tut der Natur gar nicht gut!
