early 1940s
Ah yes, I remember this well. It was autumn in the early 1940s and here I am with my mother while my dad was taking the snapshot. Let's see… if I remember correctly I had just finished making an astute comment on the early autumn weather. Thinking back I believe that my exact words were, that I'd just said: "Goo goo gurgle gagah ga ga gah!"
This is from a 2 1/2 by 4 1/4 (64cm by 108 cm) inch black and white negative. From the size of the negative I suspect the camera used might have been the Folding Autographic Brownie. Yes I was there when the picture was taken (as I'm in the shot) but no, sorry I don't quite remember the camera used, I must have been thinking about something else. -grin-
My transfer to digital was quite crude but it worked. I taped the negative to the middle of a sheet of translucent white paper, taped the paper to the window with bright sunlight pouring in from behind, zoomed in and focused on the negative with the digital camera and took the picture. Then I, on my computer, digitally inverted the image turning the negative in to a positive. I did have to do a little prodding here and there to clean up the image as the negative is around 70 years old.
