bri - Pooley Bridge [1794 to 2015]
The stone arches of the bridge at Pooley Bridge.
This was erected in 1764 {replacing an earlier bridge from the 16th century}. It was washed away on 6 December 2015 when Cumbria was hit by heavy flooding during Storm Desmond, after storm waters scoured the riverbed from around & under the bridge piers.

When this beautiful bridge was swept away during Storm Desmond [Dec 2015] some humourist stuck a black tape cross over the Bridge in Pooley Bridge on the sign at one end of the village.

So sad! It's such a beautiful tranquil place (without the storm raging). Will they rebuild it?

Sadly, the storm also damaged the banks and abutments, so a modern bridge has been built in it's place - partly, I believe, to not restrict the river flow when in spate. [They did put up a Bailey Bridge quite quickly]. Storm Desmond {Dec 2015} damaged or swept away a lot of bridges in Cumbria.
