Oakgrove

Oakgrove
Oakgrove wharf and swing bridge soon after 1900. In those days the pub was here called the Royal Oak. On the wharf are large piles of gravel waiting loading onto boats for delivery along the Macclesfield Canal. The stone came from the Hawkshead Quarries in Sutton which were at that time operated by Ashton and Holmes. In 1912 they were selling Brown Macadam at 3s.9d ton and Blue Gravel at 4s.6d ton.
