Dad on guard duty

After a morning walk at Beaverdam Flats, a friend and I called in at a location in Fish Creek Park to look for the Great Horned Owl there. Another friend (thanks, Ron) had given me information about the location, which turned out to be exactly where I had seen a Great Horned Owl before, maybe a couple of years ago. Looks like this is another male doing guard duty of a nearby nest. The male Great Horned Owl at Sikome is doing the same. The "new" owl above was tucked away in this high up, cozy fork, making for amazing camouflage! I knew the area to look, but thanks, Phil, for spotting him first! And no annoying branches in the way : ) Even a splattering of yellow lichen.
