Snowy path

Snowy path
Washoe Lake State Park, Nevada. This is a couple of miles from my house--I often take the dogs there. (Note that one is at the right edge of the pic!) It looked like we were going to have a good winter at first, but there's been very little new snow since January 1st. This snow is all gone. We're in the drought pattern, with an offshore high off California steering all the storms up into the Pacific Northwest and British Columbia. Ah, well--at least the reservoirs are full from the last few good years!

Frans Schols, Berny, Xata, Smiley Derleth and 14 other people have particularly liked this photo

The dusting of snow on the peaks in the background really shows them up well. An untrodden path apart from a couple of animal tracks going across the virgin snow.

I guess I'm not far enough Northwest, because it's been the same winter here.

We were reading about flooding along the Touchet River in SE Washington, not far from where we used to live in the Tri-Cities. Apparently the atmospheric rivers have been going into the Blue Mtns of SE Washington-NE Oregon, so they've received a lot more precip than usual.

Such a lovely picture and a fun time for your hound too I'm sure! Sorry to hear about the drought, we are also experiencing less than usual water here in southern Oregon...

A beautiful winter image and a lovely sky too. Strange weather all around, - a lot of places over here are experiencing heavy rainfall and flooding. Have a good week

Thanks, everyone! After no (!) snow all thru February, we finally got a storm on the 1st--about 4 inches down here. Of course, it's pretty much gone now, but every little bit helps!

We had an afternoon of snow at the end of February- that was our winter;-) At least there was enough rain during the so called winter which was several degress warmer than average.

One of them is visible at the extreme right edge of the picture. There are two others not in the pic!

We finally had the first truly big storm of the season come into the Sierra Nevada last weekend (March 14), and it's hung around several days, dropping up to 5 feet (1.5 m) of snow in the higher elevations. It's brought the snowpack from about 40% of normal up to maybe 70% for this time of year. That's the problem--most of the year's water supply depends on the vagaries of a few big storms!
