Snowy path

Snowy path
Washoe Lake State Park, Nevada. This is a couple of miles from my house--I often take the dogs there. (Note that one is at the right edge of the pic!) It looked like we were going to have a good winter at first, but there's been very little new snow since January 1st. This snow is all gone. We're in the drought pattern, with an offshore high off California steering all the storms up into the Pacific Northwest and British Columbia. Ah, well--at least the reservoirs are full from the last few good years!

Thanks, everyone! After no (!) snow all thru February, we finally got a storm on the 1st--about 4 inches down here. Of course, it's pretty much gone now, but every little bit helps!

We had an afternoon of snow at the end of February- that was our winter;-) At least there was enough rain during the so called winter which was several degress warmer than average.

One of them is visible at the extreme right edge of the picture. There are two others not in the pic!

We finally had the first truly big storm of the season come into the Sierra Nevada last weekend (March 14), and it's hung around several days, dropping up to 5 feet (1.5 m) of snow in the higher elevations. It's brought the snowpack from about 40% of normal up to maybe 70% for this time of year. That's the problem--most of the year's water supply depends on the vagaries of a few big storms!
