Churchyard of the Green Church

The Green or St. Willibrord Church in Oegstgeest. According to history St. Willibrord built a wooden church on this spot, quite possibly the first church in the Netherlands. Later it was replaced with a stone one. That one was partly destroyed during the Siege of Leiden in 1574. It was rebuilt in the 17th Century. The church tower was removed in 1830 because it was in danger of falling down. It has been restored in the 1950s. The ivy, which gave the church the name Green Church, has been removed.
