Kiev: Lavra
A lot of the buildings and churches have regained their golden roofs after communism.
The Lavra is a very old cloister complex. The most impressive are the catacombs with the mummies of saints.
You can visit the Lavra as a tourist, but the religious are in the majority. In western Europe it is usually the other way around.
These are pictures taken during my holiday in Kiev in August 2004. Pictures of Kiev that were already in my flickr photostream have been digitally remastered and the best versions have been oploaded.
