Kiev: view from the Lavra
The river is the Dnjepr. I had to learn about the rivers in the Soviet-Union when I was at school, but I never imagined I would one day swim in the Dnjepr.
The Lavra is a very old cloister complex. The most impressive are the catacombs with the mummies of saints. .You can visit the Lavra as a tourist, but the religious are in the majority. In western Europe it is usually the other way around.
These are pictures taken during my holiday in Kiev in August 2004. Pictures of Kiev that were already in my flickr photostream have been digitally remastered and the best versions have been oploaded.
