Seabiscuit (2) - 13 April 2016
'Seabiscuit' (1971) by Gidon Graetz, bronze.
This sculpture, by an artist better known for his abstract work, stands outside The Shops at Tanforan, a mall on the site of the Tanforan Racetrack which closed in 1964 after a fire. The surroundings today, as the picture shows, are busy and urban, but I felt a sense of history at the location.
Seabiscuit (1933-1947) raced with spectacular success from 1936 to 1940 although he lost his first 17 races.
