Charles Meryon (5) - 28 February 2015
Statue of Charles Meryon by Don Paterson, Rue Lavaud (Place de la Poste), Akaroa.
Charles Meryon was a 19th century artist and engraver whose later work reflected his stay in New Zealand as a lieutenant aboard the French naval escort ship 'Le Rhin' [1843-46]. Akaroa has the distinction of having been the only French settlement in New Zealand.
