Angels Flight (3) - 20 November 2013

Angels Flight (3) - 20 November 2013
On my latest visit to Los Angeles, I took the time to take several lovingly composed pictures of the Angels Flight funicular railway in the Bunker Hill district which is currently closed. I fear for its future following a derailment on 5 September 2013 and the subsequent investigation. The railway, which advertises itself as 'the world's shortest railway' and is only 50c a ride (2013) has a long history since 1901 including a 1969 move from a site slightly further north and long periods of non-operation. The LA Times reports incidents in the past including a 2001 collision between the cars, Sinai and Olivet. The paper reports the chequered history of the railway objectively and supports its reopening. I hope it happens. It first came to my attention in the excellent Michael Connelly novel 'Angels Flight'. The story's Harry Bosch is a tightly drawn character and one of my favourites in fiction. I hope he translates well into a TV series now being filmed.
