Torres Kio and the hypodermic needle, Plaza de Castilla, Madrid

Torres Kio and the hypodermic needle, Plaza de Castilla, Madrid
Another missed bus (by seconds and a two hour wait), so another photo opportunity. The golden needle like structure was added to this site just before I came to live and work here. It doesn't seem to be liked much; hence the nickname you see in my title! (La Aguja hipodérmica in Spanish).
I think the heat of the day comes through in this shot!

Actually a 1980s design, constructed in the early 1990s, so not all that new!
Thank you, Nouchet!

The heat is very apparent in this shot Andy. I like it a lot but can understand the criticism of the needle! Very hot still here!!

The photo looks like I feel -a bit clammy and hot! (You know I had Covid over the last week or so! perhaps). These two leaning buildings sure are photogenic.

Keep good. Herb

I had no idea, Herb! Glad you're over it! My sister too - and the whole household thought we would also get it but all tested negative. What a strange and capricious thing this virus is!

I think the two large sloping buildings work well together...........but the "hypodermic needle" thingy looks really out of place. Perhaps it looks better at night?

I like the image though.............it really sums up the current heat wave with the haze and soft focus. Nicely done sir.

Thanks Keith!
I don't recall it being lit up at night - and now with energy cuts being imposed, I don't suppose the Torres Kio will be lit up either, at least in the short term.

Avant de te lire j'ai pensé "Cette photo évoque une grande chaleur". Tu a parfaitement traduit la canicule que nous ressentons ici aussi. Amitié. Jean Paul

Yes if that haze at the bottom of the picture shows the heat - then why were you out in that heat? This buildings are really strange - not for the people who have problems with their balance!!!! It does seem to represent its title though

Thanks Jenny!
I had three options;
1) to stay in the metro concourse where it was stuffy and with too many idiots not wearing masks (still obligatory here on public transport but no one enforces it) and I can't take any risk,
2) have a coffee in a café but obviously one has to remove ones mask to drink! Again I can't take the risk. I did actually have a coffee on an outside terrace which was relatively empty (i found out why - very expensive coffee!) but as is usual, the cigarette smoke was overpowering, so not ideal and
3) go for a walk keeping to the shady parts of the pavements!
I chose 2 and 3!
The buildings seem perfectly normal to be in and to work in. I know because I taught Business English to the CEO of the Bank whose head office is the tower on the left and his office was on the top floor.
(By the way, photographs are not permitted from the building but my student happily overrode this and allowed me to take photos of the mountains from his office which I posted on Pano and later ipernity. I'll try and find one to post here!!) www.ipernity.com/doc/2247598/45653656

Wonderful shot! Sorry about the bus though

I have made a habit of missing it by seconds, Jan! I DO give myself enough time, but when other trains and buses are delayed, there's invariably a knock-on effect!
Thank you!

Fascinating buildings and the heat of the day certainly shows through. A great image, though I confess to mixed feelings about the "hypodermic".
