Wow, unlike any station I've ever seen. HFF, Andy.

About 20-25 years ago, George, the Madrid transport authority had access to squillions of euros from all kinds of sources but mainly borrowing on easy-peasy credit and very long terms and access to loads of EU funding etc. So Madrid splashed out and got itself a sqeaky clean brand new shiny metro system adding 10 times the mileage (sorry, kilometreage) and getting thoroughly modernised. Then the money ran out in 2008 and we await the completion of this phase even now. This totally remodelled station dates from 2002, but obviously designed in the 90s when no one could have envisaged 9/11. I know there were thoughts about leaving this structure out beacause of the associations but the majority of Spaniards are far too sanguine to be bothered.
