Typical late summer scenery in the Sierra de La Cabrera
OK, mid October but the summer did drag on and on that year (2011)!
A small pine tree of some sort in the foreground and a holm oak (encina) seemingly growing out of the rocks.

Yes you are right, that holm oak does indeed look as if it's growing directly out of the rock. Beautiful blue sky compliments this scene with the granite

Just did a hike last weekend in the eastern Sierra Nevada, not far outside Reno, and it looked a lot like this! Granite, oaks, and all!

One of these days I'm gonna post some more. Really I am!
