Mission Concepción
Mission Concepción is one of five Spanish Missions along the San Antonio River in central Texas. It was built, along with the other missions early in eighteenth century. We visited all five missions on bikes, following the Mission Trail south of San Antonio. At the time of our visit they were working on the roof of the mission and there was a lot of scoffolding deliberately hidden by the ruined building in on the left in this photo.

Each one of the pictures says authentic.
It is something to keep as culture.
Thank you.
I see you left a lovely note on a favorite picture of mine! YES!! WHITE SEABLUSH!! Isn't it incredible?!! I have gone back to that spot every year and there are always a few white ones there to ooh and aaah over! :) It's always so fantastic to spot these rarities...can you think of any rare finds to link to me? I would love to ooh and aah over your unique blossoms too! :) Regarding seablush, it lives up to its name on our property--the meadows become a sea of pink (If you look at picture #4 in this search, you'll see a poor inkling of the carpet we get...it's acres of flowers that are a marvel to see! www.ipernity.com/search/photo?w=290645&q=seablush And so of course I agree with you about those white ones...rarer than a 4-leaf clover by far!
Re: Nancy's trepidation on that electric bike...she did such a lovely job describing her wobbly ride to start off with, she had me nibbling my fingernails just thinking about the near-falls at first...and lol, yelling at the construction crew to get outatheway, newbs on electric bikes comin' through! LOL, I'm glad you got them though, esp when you discovered the unanticipated challenge of the day's adventures!
Re: the Asimov quote--I agree with you, I need to know too! As for the books, I've not read the Foundation series, though Steve recently gave the first book a hard try...in the end he just couldn't get through it and opted for Ready Player One, which was fantastic and a book I gobbled up myself! :) Both the book and the movie were equally wonderful! :) Perhaps I'll give Foundation a try at some point, it really is a huge favorite for sci-fi fans. We'll see though, I get ever so tired of political entanglements and space operas...it becomes tedious to the point of abandonment if it goes on too long. I just don't care about politics except as a sleeping aide. :D
Oh, I loved hearing about your birdy sightings, isn't that marvelous?! It's been twitter-tweet central around here as I walk up and down the driveway each morning. I stop several times just to listen to all of the conversations, arguments, and announcements by the plethora of species making their cases known. Whenever a boisterous yell-fest ensues I give them a hearty, "Oh WOW!" or "MY GOODNESS!" or perhaps a well-meaning, "CAN'T WE ALL JUST GET ALONG?!" LOLOL...I do adore all of the birdies who frequent our property, and never fail to know just how lucky we are to live in this wild place! :) I envy your red-breasted nuthatch sightings, I've not seen one except in pictures. Such fun birds, how they scamper up and down tree trunks or the sides of our house! I know their sounds and songs and love looking to see if I can spot them when I hear them making remarks. :) Re: your nesting boxes and the sparrows who want to move in... ...the local sheriff's department is on the way to evict them... ROFLMAO...oh Ron, you rude man! Messing up their plans of love and family building! :D HEH, but I do understand. I personally can't handle birds that are parasites and it just bums me out that starlings are so beautiful and yet ruin it all because of what they do. It's infuriating and makes me so sad to think about at the same time. :(
*beam* I knew you'd love hearing about Chicken the Burrito Bird! What a doll she is. And you're right to back away from serious thoughts of getting a bird. They are more work than most would be comfortable with. They take a different approach towards care and discipline and no way, no how would a bird be appropropriate in a household with someone who has less than 100% control in their behavior and mood. I've seen some AMAZING cases of kids with birds...I mean, they totally get it...to move slow and careful, to not use a loud voice, to understand that punishing a bird doesn't work the way it does with a dog or cat...most kids without any issues don't have the wherewithal to deal with the complexities of a bird. So it's not a snub at Neal--I'd object to a bird for 99% of kid-filled households! On top of all of that, bird species are different in the "ease" of caring for them. Caiques (Pumpkin) are a big handful and require a base of experience because they are much "pushier" and more aggressive than other species. They will test you forever and they also like to play-bite which is usually gentle but can become rough...new bird owners will often train their birds to bite harder and harder when they pull away instead of properly diffusing the situation...blah blah blah...anyway, I've had three of these birds and though I haven't had many other species (cockatiel, sun conure, senegal), I think they are the perfect parrot. Their incredibly affectionate personalities, HILARIOUS sense of humor, irresistible silliness and fantastic happy outlook, cleverness and curiosity, combined in a small, compact body and being much quieter than so many other birds...they are stellar birds. I sure can see why you're dearly tempted and am happy that you can admire from afar with a keen understanding of why the reality means not getting one of these amazing birds for yourself. :) For this reason I share with you some of the marvelous and intimate experiences--I know you won't act on your desires but can enjoy the stories. :)
Poor Neal...I'm so sorry he was badly bitten by a dog. It's got to be rough for him to have such troubles throughout his life. :( You guys sure do give him as much as is possible to make his life full and enriching though, how I admire you both.
How nice that you guys set aside some time to look at your pictures together. Great memories from trips are so fantastic to revisit! (HAND OVER THE SINGAPORE NOODLES...STAT!) :D
And finally, your handyman exploits around the house are super and they make such a difference, don't they? Just the other day Steve fixed the hang of several doors in the house which weren't closing properly. Don't know why it didn't occur to us for 10 YEARS, but the moron who we hired to paint our house put the doors back on with just 1 (not 4) screws and over the years they have gotten harder and harder to open and close, esp with the changing seasons...when Steve took a look and realized why the doors were having issues he just about yelled! He showed me and together we shook our heads in amazement that the doors were so sloppily put back and that we never thought to look ourselves. ARGH! Sufficed to say, the doors are now magically fixed! And every single time we use them we ooh and aah over how well they work! GO FIGURE *face/palm*
Steve is off to Costco to load up on stuff so he doesn't have to go out too much for the next couple of weeks. MEH to stupid viruses!!! *shakes fist*
Ok, off I go! It's a GORGEOUS day today!! May your day be full of fun! I'll be exploring fantastical lands and slaying beasts, taking their treasure! :D
