White Sands National Park

White Sands National Park
I've been posting a few photos from our recent trip, mostly panoramas taken with my phone, before finishing the long series of Yellowstone photos. This is another panorama taken at White Sands National Monument in the Tularosa Basin near Alamogordo, New Mexico. This is not snow but gypsum sand that has formed dunes and flats over a huge area. The area of the park is completely surrounded by the White Sands Missile Range and Holloman Air Force Base and occasionally has to be closed when missile tests are being conducted.

Andrea Riberti, Daniel Palacin, , Esther and 32 other people have particularly liked this photo

Holy toledo, Ron, this is so incredibly beautiful! The lines in the sand are amazing to see. Gosh, I'd really love to see something like this!! (I'd love to see this larger...800 wide is just not big enough!!!) :)

I'll be dropping a longer comment soon but wanted to stop by and see what you'd shared today! :)

Hi there! Sorry it took me so long to get back to you...I'm busy doing a bunch of stuff, especially with my rock tumblers--it was moving day from pre-polish to polish! I've also been processing pictures of finished stones. Steve made me a little light studio in our guest bedroom so I can take consistent pictures of my rocks! (you may remember me telling you that his job before retiring was a gem/bead photographer at Fire Mountain Gems...he worked with lighting all day long...I just can't stand messing with it but Steve was happy to get a mini studio going for me...yay!) I did a lot of thinking about how best to present my favorites from each new group of finished stones and decided that a 9x9 collage of stones would look best. Every one of the nine stones would have rollover insets to show a larger size and could have an optional additional view to show another side if the rock is really neat from more than one side. And I'd just present x numbers of collages per newly tumbled rocks. Anyway, I am almost done with my first of 4 (or 5? can't remember) collage sets. I need to take pictures of the other sets but first I wanted to see if my idea looked good. It looks GREAT! :) There's a minimum of processing necessary because the lighting is pretty much dead-on except for a few stones. I'm really happy and can hardly wait to show off my favorites from the second tumbled batch! I'm so lucky that Steve is ALSO a professional photographer and knows lighting and studio sets like nobody's business! :D

Thank you for your quick note on my dairy presentation, it was so nice that you stopped by! I'm really glad folks have been watching the video on that milking parlors--it's just so amazing and fascinating! How cool that your friend works on them! How awesome! I just can't get over how nice this is for the cows. They deserve the best treatment and it's great for them, but also for the dairy personnel too. Less stress all around and happy cows! :) Love that! :)

Glad you had a nice time with Dave and Jess..Oh my, ribeye is our favorite--and grilled is just soooo good!! We haven't been doing much sous viding lately because our bbq is so great for steaks...Steve got a propane-powered one and without the mess and extremely fast heat up, it's just so easy to get up and running with steaks done so fast! We had ribeye just a couple of nights ago, NOM! :D And tonight we had some new sausages that Steve found at Costco...jalapeño-cheese...they were INCREDIBLE! And we had our nommy faux-tato salad to go with, yum yum yum! :)

Wow, you were a busy boy today--but I'm as OCD as you are...like you, I simply can't stop until everything is shipshape after a trip. Laundry, putting everything away, blah-blah-blah...I only feel settled when everything is in its place once again! :) I don't know how Steve can stand just letting his duffle of clothes sit there, forgotten...I simply MUST take it into my own hands or I will spin out of control! :D LOL...

Well, I know I have another much longer note from you that I want to answer but alas, it's after midnight and I can't stay awake a moment longer! I'll get to it tomorrow, and I'm going to bet you'll have another delightful picture (or more! :D) for me to stick my reply onto! :) Take care til then! :)

Fantastic capture Ron. I am glad you described the sand colour otherwise I would have thought it was a snowy scene. Regards Tess
