Western White

I am not at all certain of the ID on this butterfly. I have it as a Western White but stand to be corrected. It was photographed along the Harding Icefields trail in Keni Fjords National Park.

It's a tough one 'cause there are two [that I can think of offhand] Parnassius species --- Parnassius clodius & Parnassius smintheus -- and Pieris Angelika which can look exactly like this. The color pattern, IMO, matches best for an Arctic White Butterfly. I think you'd also need a shot of the underside to really confirm ID with a species that can be so variable in color.

Lovely detail. The wildflowers were just coming out when we visited and I saw only one butterfly which was very similar to the ones at home. This one is subdued, but beautiful.
