Unregistered Sophrocattleya
Several years ago I purchased a number of mini-cattleya seedlings and they are now beginning to bloom. This opened last week and is an unregistered cross of Sophrocattleya Mini Collins and Sophrocattleya Beaufort. I'm pleased with its form and color, but probably will not keep it, since I do not grow a lot of minicatts and this one is just a bit larger than the few I do grow.
For those who are not into orchids, the orchid world is as much into naming and registering plants as is the world of dogs or horses and since orchid hybrids began to made it has been the Royal Horticultural Society in the United Kingdom with which all hybrids are officially registered (for a fee, of course). This cross was made by Sunset Valley Orchids and has not been registered.
